President Lynn Schwind welcomes representatives of both sides of the Container Ban issue to the October 17 meeting.

If you missed the October 17 meeting, you missed this from Ruth Pharis's Issues & Legislation report, "The FCC bypassed government regulations and seized control of the internet back in Dec. last year. Regardless of many lawsuits, the House... of Representatives and a Circuit court unanimously ruling that the FCC had no authority to take control, they are pushing ahead toward full implementation on November 20. The Senate needs to pass a Congressional Review Act resolution that would kill this illegal Net Neutrality order."

Of the 5796 bills filed, 1327 bills were passed and signed by Gov. Perry. Another 27 bills became law without the governor’s signature, and 24 bills were vetoed.
The legislature passed a budget that balanced without raiding the rainy day fund. “Texas has the highest bond rating you can have,” Rep. Kuempel said, “and revenues have gone up more than expected in the last eight months.”
When they began working on the budget, there were $11 billion in proposed cuts for education. In the budget that passed, there were only $4 billion in cuts. Kuempel said bills were also passed that give school districts more flexibility to reward achievement as well as seniority. School districts are now hiring back some of the teachers who had been fired.
Among other bills that passed, Kuempel highlighted the sonogram bill, doing away with the Trans Texas Corridor, and the voter ID bill.
“The Texas Legislature said to the federal government, ‘leave us alone in Texas. We know what we’re doing.’”
