Lou Ann Anderson from Americans for Prosperity shocked the April NBRW meeting, saying that America used to rank 3rd on the list of countries with the most economic freedom. Our current ranking is now 10th, and some say that the U.S. is likely to fall to the 15 to 20 range. These trends will mean slower growth and lower incomes for Americans in the decade ahead.

There are five major groups of data which constitute the elements of economic freedom: Size of government, Regulation, Sound money, Free Trade, and Rule of Law. The United States has declined in every category since 2000.

A copy of the PowerPoint and all of the statistics, including the unseen costs of regulation; the growing burden of national, state, and local debt; and the historical relationship between median income, government spending and taxes, is available for free from the Americans for Prosperity Foundation. http://www.americansforprosperity.org/foundation
